Westwood Primary School - New Recycled Plastic Adventure Trail

Project details

  • Location: Westwood Primary School, NR33

  • Surface installed: Grass Mats around 2 items.

  • Completion timescale: 3 days

  • Project value: £14,976 + VAT

Westwood Primary School had been referred to us by another school within their Trust – after we have completed a Recycled Plastic adventure trail for them in 2025.

PlayQuest was appointed to design and deliver a brand-new adventure play trail that would benefit the pupils for years to come. The result is a durable and low-maintenance play environment that the school community is incredibly proud of.

The Challenge

There was no play equipment within the school grounds that could be used by the pupils. The school needed a solution that would:

  • Use the space available on the school field in the most effective way
  • Be long-lasting and have no chance of rotting/degrading in years to follow
  • Introduce modern, durable equipment
  • Deliver maximum play value within budget
  • Minimise disruption to the school during installation

The school had worked hard to raise the funds, so it was essential that the final result exceeded expectations.

Our solution

We discussed several options with the school and then agreed on an Adventure Trail with some added elements for the pupils to use their upper-body strength and grip.

We supplied and installed:

  • A modified Fun Trail 2
  • Added Chin-Up/Tumble Bars and Gym Rings
  • Grass Mats safer surfacing around the Chin-Up/Tumble Bars and Gym Rings

All equipment was manufactured from recycled plastic, offering a robust, weather-resistant and low-maintenance alternative to traditional timber.

The entire project was completed in just 3 days with very minimal disruption to the school during the installation period.

The outcome

The transformation was immediate. The refreshed play area now provides dynamic balancing, hand-eye coordination and strength-based activities that encourage active play at break and lunchtime.

The children and staff were delighted with the finished result.

The new recycled plastic equipment ensures long-term durability, while the Grass Mats surfacing enhances safety. The space now supports physical development, social interaction and imaginative play in a modern, welcoming environment.
